Registration and Whakapapa Verification

It is important that where possible, Tumapuhia descendents are involved in the planning, and any future decisions with regards the hapu. Registration on the database will enable you to be involved with important hapu processes and as a registered member you will be eligible to participate in the election of trustees to the Runanga, and also to be part of the Waitangi Tribunal settlement process.

Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated

This authority is the body that represents Kahungunu in the regional areas throughout the rohe. Kahungunu Asset Holding Company is the legal entity that manages the fisheries asset

Kahungunu Ki Wairarapa

This is one of seven regional Kahungunu Iwi authorities that links all of Kahungunu to Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated. It is the mandated Kahungunu Iwi authority for the Wairarapa. Voting for the Board is on an individual basis.

The purpose of KKW is set out in the Trust Deed. Its principal function is to represent the Kahungunu people of the Wairarapa. The Wairarapa Chairman is the appointed representative to the monthly board meetings of the Kahungunu Iwi Authority Heretaunga.

Te Runanga o Ngai Tamapuhia a Rangi

This body represents nga uri o Ngai Tumapahia a Rangi ki Wairarapa. It has the mandate to carry out several purposes for Whanau Whanui o Ngai Tumapahia a Rangi as detailed in its Trust Deed. There are seven (7) Trustees elected every three years.

It is also mandated to manage the Waitangi Claims Settlement process. The Runanga is one of nine Hapu Karanga represented on the Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Tamaki Nui a Rua Settlement Trust (KKWTNR).
Meetings are held monthly. Hapu hui are also held every six months.

Kahungunu Ki Wairarapa Tamaki Nui a Rua Settlement Trust

This body represents 9 Hapu Karanga of the Wairarapa and Tamaki regions. It is mandated by the people and recognised by the Crown as a Large Natural Group to seek a comprehensive settlement of all historical claims with the Crown in Wairarapa and Tamaki Nui a Rua.

10 Trustees are elected to this body every three (3) years until settlement. Its function will cease upon Settlement when a Post Settlement Governance will by then have been established. Ngai Tumapuhiaarangi will be represented on this board.

Ratification through voting is required by the Crown at two (2) points of the settlement process. Voting will be carried out according to the Trust Deed.
